This repository contains Plant area index information for the Paraguayan Chaco based on a modelling workflow combining Sentinel-1, -2 and GEDI (Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation) data for the dry season 2019 (April to September). By training a random forest regression model with vegetation structure samples (information on Plant area index from GEDI) and spatio-temporal metrics from Sentinel-1 and -2, the first high-resolution maps of vegetation structure for the complete Paraguayan Chaco have been generated. The overview presented here was derived from this model and displays information on total canopy cover for the complete Paraguayan Chaco. The dataset is available as Float-32 GeoTIFF in the WGS 84 / UTM zone 21S - Projected (EPSG:32721) with a pixel size of 10 m. The grey levels in the raster file indicate the Plant area index as float values (index without a unit). Their meaning is as follows: 0 = No Data 0.006 = 0.006 in Plant area index . . . 3.96 = 3.96 in Plant area index An open access publication with all technical details can be found here: Kacic, P., Hirner, A., & Da Ponte, E.
